First Hot Chocolate

Dear Lyla, on our list of things to do this Christmas/Winter, was try hot chocolate for the first time!  You mostly just wanted to eat the marshmallows!  Silly Girl.  I just enjoy trying new first with you. 

Learning Day: Snow Globes

Dear Lyla, we’ve made snow globes for just about every occasion BUT Christmas!  That morning you opened the supplies for making your snow globe, and we went right to town getting it all snowy and such.  You loved dumping and filled your jar to the brim with stockings, glitter, little gems, snowmen, and you name it.  I glued a little plastic snowman to the lid and we were done!  This activity is the one that keeps giving.  You still grab it off the shelf at random times to shake it and show it off saying “I did it!”  and “shaaaakeee it!”. 

 

Immediately after you finished your globe, you took the leftover supplies and dumped it in your sensory table!  LOL

Learning Day: SNOWMAN!

Dear Lyla, this had to be my favorite winter activity we did.  It involves mixing glue and shaving cream to make the perfect frothy snoman.  I just cut the general shape of a snowman out on cardstock and then let you go to town.  And that you did my dear.  You loved swirling that business around covering the paper.  You also gave it buttons, a scarf, and eyes using gems and pipe cleaners.  We had to let it dry out in the garage for a few days (that sucker was BIG) but the end result was amazing!!! It dried just like snow.  It looked so awesome it’s STILL hanging on your bedroom door.  These finished-product pics were taken a month later so it lost some of its wonderful frothyness

Winter Wonderland

Dear Lyla and Lottie, we really haven’t had that much snow this year (hooray!) so we had to take advantage of this wonderful snow day.  The snow wasn’t wet enough for making a snowman, but it was perfect for playing in.  I was slightly dreading getting the both of you all bundled because I figured we spend maybe 20 mins and then get bored of it.  Oh contraire!  You both LOVED it, and we played out there for over an hour.  It was a beautiful day.  Charlotte doesn’t have snow pants, so I made her sit on a trash bag.  LOL.  If nothing else, motherhood has improved my problem solving skills.  LOL  Charlotte, it was so fun watching you take in this new environment for the first time.  You seemed completely in awe at all that white stuff that surrounded you.  Lyla, you are my outside baby.  You loved running around, throwing the snow, and making snow angels.  Towards the end, I remembered a tip I saw on Pinterest (I know I know) that suggested putting colored water in a spray bottle so you can dye the snow.  That was so intriguing to you!  Surprisingly, you just wanted to watch me spray the snow but you still got a kick out of it.  It was a fun day.
